Activities to do this Fall!

Hi Everyone! On Wednesday September 22nd, we can officially say it is FALL! This is the BEST time of the year! As you all search for fall activities to do, look NO FURTHER! In today’s blog post I will give my favorite fall activity suggestions, even for those still stuck at home. Covid has taken so many things away from us let’s not make it take away these fun happenings. The best part is- a majority of these activities are outside, where you can social distance. Just be sure to call any place before stopping by to make sure they are open for the season and how they are handling said event.

Pumpkin & Apple Picking – I do this every year! I love going with my fiancé, cousin and her kids! Certain places have other activities to do while you are there such as: face cutouts of cartoon characters that you can get a photo op in, animal farms, a market to shop at and so forth. I went to Demarest Farms, located in NJ, last year and here are a few things you need to know before you go:

      • You have to reserve your tickets online. Do this in advance because tickets sell out quick! I also don’t think they sell them at the door!
      • They only sell their apple cider donuts and juice at the market (across the street from the patch). They used to sell it right there at the patch, but due to everything going on they are just opting to sell it at their market. This could change though so keep a look out on their Instagram or website!
      • General Admission is $7 (that includes parking and entrance fee); there is an additional $12 to pick the largest pumpkin you can find!

Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze – this is a must see if you are in the NY/NJ area! I’ve been to this twice (a few years ago), and I must say the whole experience is great!  I am so excited because I was able to snag Saturday tickets (in September)!! Last year I believe I waited too long & they only had weekday options, which is fine but we didn’t want to get back too late on a week night. Again, due to Covid there are select time slots available and you must order your tickets in advance. Tickets just went on sale this week so they are quickly selling out! There are some restrictions, but not many. Check their website out here.

Go to a winery– I haven’t been to a winery in about 3 years but I really enjoyed my experience at Laurita Winery (down in South Jersey). Not only do you get to sip on some great tasting wine, but you can take in all the fall foliage!

Haunted Houses– being a thriller/scary movie person I must say I DO NOT like haunted houses. I do not like things popping out at me. However, I will visit a true haunted house (which to some might be scarier than the fake ones LOL). I know some places in NJ are not hosting their annual haunted house attractions this year but check with your local places to make sure! The BEST haunted house attraction that I did visit was back in 2018, Halloween Horror Nights, in Orlando Florida. Last year they did not host the event, but this year they are back and better than ever! It is their 30th year so I am guessing they will do something awesome! I briefly looked at their website and saw that they have the Haunting of Hill House and Beetlejuice! Those will definitely be fun!

Corn Maze– I haven’t been to a corn maze probably since I was young but here are a few farms that have corn mazes (and are open this season). Also note that some of these farms offer pumpkin/apple picking so you can do all 3 in one day if you wanted!

    • Happy Day Farm
    • Conklin Farm
    • Heaven Hill Farm
    • Von Thun Farms
    • Stony Hill Farms

Host a Trunk or Treat– Since Halloween was “cancelled” last year, my family did a trunk or treat. You can really show your creativity with how you decorate your trunk. I think this is a great project for the kids to help out with too (if you have kids). If you don’t have kids, like me, you can still have fun decorating!

For those that still do not want to be out; here are a few things you can do at home OR not around other people!

    • Take a scenic drive to check out the fall foliage! Click here to see the best foliage times. Maybe even go on a hike!
    • Bake apple/pumpkin EVERYTHING!
    • Order some cute, fall themed coloring books for yourself (and for the kids if you have!)
    • Watch scary movies OR come October 1st watch Freeforms 31 nights of Halloween!  The 2021 schedule has not been released but click here to see last years (2020)!
    • Make S’mores!
    • Carve or paint a pumpkin!
    • Build a haunted ginger bread house! I found a cute village kit a few years ago at Christmas Tree Shops and Target! I don’t see them out right now but I will post them on my LIKEtoKNOW.it and IG!
    • Decorate your house / porch!
    • DIY Halloween Costume! I am a HUGE supporter of this. I do not like purchasing my own Halloween costumes. I like putting costumes together myself with things I currently own. I don’t necessary make my own costumes (except the Ursula costume below) but I like putting my own spin on characters. See below for some of the Halloween costumes I put together in the past!
